National Institute of Science (NIS), LALITPUR NIST, formerly known as PATAN NIST, is a premier education institution, which was established in 1994. It is situated at Balkumari, strategically important location in the Lalitpur, and is one of the constituent institutions under the NIST Foundation. The school has been conducting Plus 2 programme (Grade 11 – 12), now Upper Secondary school classes, both in Science, and Management for the last three decades. In addition to these streams, the college has successfully conducted the first year for the Law students. The school follows the national curriculum under the National Examination Board (NEB), Nepal. The school management is planning to introduce other courses in Arts and Humanities in Grade 11–12 in the near future while the ultimate goal is to provide the continuum of education from Pre–school to Grade 12 under the National Institute of Science within the next few years. The NIST Foundation was initiated by a group of scientists and academicians.

The school runs upper secondary (Grade 11 and 12) courses based on the national curriculum prescribed by the National Examination Board (NEB). Earlier known as Plus 2 programme, this is offered as a separate stand–alone two-year course that prepares students for undergraduate courses at university. Upon successful completion of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) i.e. Grade 10, conducted by the NEB, students are eligible to pursue Grade 11–12 course. Upon enrolling in the course, students have the flexibility to choose elective subjects as per their interest and career goals. The core subjects are mandatory for every student to pursue, and are designed to provide in-depth knowledge and understanding. Facilities
Classrooms are spacious and designed to accommodate thirty–six students. Student furniture is chosen so as to provide the necessary comfort and support for proper seating posture taking into account the long hours students put in inside the classroom. Each classroom is equipped with a fixed projector, and access to high-speed internet connectivity to ensure the use of technology as an aid for teaching-learning activities in the classroom.
We have excellently conditioned laboratories for physics, biology and chemistry in our college. Our students will have access to high class graded equipments in each aspect of practical experiments.
The school has an appropriate school Management Information System for managing students’ personal profile, academic and non–academic activities during the course of their studies. Upon admission to the school, every student will be provided a unique account/registration number for accessing the school MIS. Today, the management information system has become an important part of any educational system. It enhances efficient management of school functions and provides a better learning experience for students besides ensuring parents of their child’s safety and progress.
The school management information system communicates with the students and parents through email, mobile apps, etc., and students can use various online tools and platforms for accessing learning resources provided by teachers and the school administration.
At NIS, we providee excellent quality for our hostelling students. Our facilities for the hostelers include proper canteen facilities with great quality fooding and lodging. We have bunk beds as well as single bed accrding to the priority of our students. Our hostel buildings are closer to our college vicinity which makes it more convinient for our students.
The school provides first aid services to students throughout the duration of school hours. Minor injuries and illnesses are treated in the school infirmary. In case of a major injury, the student is immediately taken to the nearest hospital, and parents/guardians are notified. In such cases, parents/students are required to bear the medical expenses.
The school has a prescribed set of school uniforms to which all students must adhere to. The school uniform includes a shirt, pants, tie, and coat. Apart from the regular uniform, students are also provided with a house T-shirt, which they need to wear during the ECAs in the school. Details regarding the uniform will be provided at the time of admission. Books and other necessities of stationeries will also be provided from the college for the convenience of the students.
The school provides transportation facilities to students who require bus service to commute to and from the school. Transportation service is available only within the periphery of ten kilometers to the maximum. However, an application for the bus service, however, should be made at the time of admission.
At NIS, we provide students with a wide range of activities that are integrated within the weekly schedule of the academic routine. A designated hour is dedicated to holistic development. that It includes emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative, and spiritual development of students. The school offers hands-on projects and opportunities for students to hone essential life skills that prepare them to become life–long learners and achievers. Students are encouraged and provided with forums to develop their leadership skills and ability to adapt to new challenges, and to become lifelong learners. Different clubs comprising and involving students as members such as IT and Science Club, Social Club, Young Entrepreneurs Club, Debate Club, Theatre and Communication, among others are invested with the responsibility of organizing and conducting at least one major event showcasing the Club activities during the academic year.
We have two designated computer laboratory for Science and Management students. Each of the laboratories are highly equiped with curreent technology and high speed internet. Our students have higher level of advancement and superiority in the field.

It is best to apply as soon as you know that this college is an option for you. While there is no deadline for applications, we have limited vacancies and we follow the first come first served policy, so apply early for your best chance of being admitted.
Admissions are open in Grade 11 in Science, Management, and Law faculties.
Admission is given on the basis of an Entrance Examination which is mandatory and comprehensive, and your SEE GPA will also play a significant role in getting the scholarship. Subsequently, a one-on-one interview will conducted by the sponsoring college/ institution, which is a must for eligible candidates to attend accompanied by their parents.
Some of our co-curricular activities include debating, elocution, basketball, futsal, table tennis, educational seminars, essay writing, painting, drama, project, and excursions.
Our Library is full of text-books, reference books/encyclopedias, and journals/ newspapers/magazines to keep the students well-informed. We have transportation facility as well.

Scholarships are provided on the basis of merit as well as criteria set by National Examinations Board (NEB). Students/ candidates are required to appear in scholarship tests held by the respective institution for which the college admission desk provides you with the dates and time of the test. Since the selection process is transparent, fair and competitive, it is mandatory for all candidates to pass the scholarship tests to acquire a scholarship for higher education. We also provide government school quota, Minority quota and rural education quota for our potential students.
