How were you inspired to venture into the education field?
The teaching profession has a long historical connection with my family. My father spent several years educating young learners in a few bucolic areas, especially in Rukum and Salyan. Although these places are regarded as the best destinations for tourists’ leisurely pursuits, poor road networks and illiteracy are looming over these areas and abating education delivery to its extreme. Moreover, my mother has also spent a significant number of years in teaching. I have had a dream since my childhood that one day I would grow and become a breadwinner of my family as a teacher. These are the fountainhead of my entailment in education, which I always venerate.

How did you pinpoint the teaching profession as a rewarding career?
I commenced my teaching career immediately after completing I.Sc. from Mahendra Multiple Campus when I was 17-18 years old. This happened due to the financial crisis in my family as my father passed away at a very tender age, so to support my education I had to rely on my own arms. Therefore, I started working in a private institution with a minimum monthly salary of Nrs.600. It was perhaps the year 2045BS. At that time, scarcity of jobs was looming over Kathmandu valley, which obliged me to accomplish a B.Com. in my native place regardless of immense interest in B.Sc. course. Subsequently, there were insurmountable problems with receiving education in Kathmandu as we did not have MBA here so I reluctantly obtained a master’s degree in economics. Furthermore, my friend Rajesh Kesar Khanal and I had the same history so we accomplished a PhD together from India. Currently, I am a permanent teacher of TU at Mahendra Multiple Campus, Nepalgunj. My entailment in Pashupati Secondary School and Brightland College has given me immense satisfaction that excites me to work diligently to spark the significance of modern education.

How is the situation of education impartation in Banke district?
Although the situation of education delivery is venerable in Banke district, institutions in the adjacent districts like Dang and Bardiya have kept us under the shadow. The main reason is that competent students migrate across the border all the way to India; they spend a number of academic years there and invest a huge amount of money in education in India. Therefore, we have a limited number of students. 

You are the chairperson of Banke and Bardiya HISSAN. What are your set priorities to enhance the academic activities of the institutions under your leadership?

We have a substantial number of +2 colleges on the outskirts of the city, out of which 5-6 are located in municipal areas. Regardless of students’ flow to the neighboring country most colleges are financially exuberant. This is because of dual structures in education impartation i.e. the schools, which offer programs for 11th and 12th graders, are relatively doing well. On the other hand, the schools that offer education from classes 1-12 are stuck amid insurmountable problems.

How is the current stance of HISSAN in the mid-western development region?

HISSAN is doing well not only in supervising its member schools but also espousing those schools to apply the modern approach of education dissemination as one of their crucial objectives. In this region, entire schools are running significantly under my leadership. Immediately following my appointment, academic activities have been triggered by a range of co-curricular activities. Moreover, we conduct a substantial number of games every year and encourage every student to participate in those events. We believe we are an epitome of academic excellence that also promotes sporting events and extra-curricular activities apart from outstanding academic activities through its member schools. Our teamwork is incredible and immutable.

What plans have you made that help HISSAN grow more rapidly in Banke district? 

Credibility, honesty, and dedication are essential parts of an organization. As the students of 11 and12 are in vulnerable transition, they need a lot of care and guidelines from their school and parents. Therefore, educating young minds should not be like providing education on the basis of available syllabuses rather they should be educated through empirical education since their interests in learning have changed in the course of time.
