What are the distinct features of Simara Public English School?
Simara Public English School is a private-funded educational institution which was established by a team of academics with a view to impart world-class education at local level. The school has successfully completed its ten year-long academic journey. During this decade of struggles, the school has earned its name, reputation and trust among the parents and the locals. It is well managed and run properly. It has qualified, experienced, dedicated, dynamic, young and energetic teachers. The physical infrastructure of this school is strong. It has modern buildings with spacious classrooms and playground.
The school has adopted interactive and student-oriented teaching pedagogies. It conducts a range of extra-curricular activities such as dance, music, drawing, scout activities which enable the students to focus on their holistic development along with curricular activities. Similarly, our students have participated in students’ Quality Circle and are able to solve their various problems by themselves. We mostly focus on academic activities by adopting modern approaches of teaching, tools and techniques. Consequently, the results of this school have been outstanding since its inception. The school successfully achieved outstanding results in the first SLC batch with stratospheric position. The legacy has been retained till date.
How is the condition of availability and sustainability of qualified teachers in this school?
Indeed, teachers at private schools have not considered teaching a professional career, and their mobility in search of higher opportunities has become a nation-wide problem. They prefer government jobs and foreign employment opportunities to teaching at private institutions. In spite of this, we have managed qualified teachers by providing them attractive salaries and other facilities. So, the sustainability and retention of teachers in our school is satisfactory. In addition, our teachers do not go to other schools for better opportunities. They only leave our school if they are offered a government job or foreign studies and employment. In this sense, we believe we have teachers who are satisfied with their facilities.
Have you got any cooperation from the local government for smooth running of private schools?
Local government has given rights and responsibilities to run school level education after restructuring of the state. The local government is not well-experienced in regulating schools since it has been newly formed. In my experience, the policy of the government itself is not appropriate. Therefore, there are a number of confusions about the rights and responsibilities of local government to run the school level education.
In your experience, what should be done for bringing desired change in education sector in this province? What suggestions would you like to give to the Chief Minister for a drastic change?
The contributions of private educational institutions to the field of education are worth appreciable. But the government has not evaluated and appreciated the contributions of these institutions instead it has brought discriminatory and suppressive policies and practices with the view to exacerbate status of private education sector. However, government schools are not efficient enough to upgrade the status of education in the absence of private educational institutions. So, I suggest the Chief Minister to bring appropriate policies and programs and should give equal status to the private institutions and government-funded institutions vis-à-vis policies and practices.
At last, do you have anything to say?
The government should bring appropriate policies and programs to upgrade the status of government schools instead of humiliating private institutions so that we can bring desired change in the field of education. Finally, I want to express my thanks to you and your entire team for providing me such an opportunity to express my few words.
