Could you give a brief introduction to Sunshine Secondary Boarding School?
Sunshine Secondary Boarding School was established in 2057 BS as a private educational institution. The main aim of establishing this school was to impart quality education at local level with affordable fee structure. We had to face many ups and downs in the beginning. The initial days were full of struggle for existence. We established this school in one kattha of land by establishing small Bamboo shed. The school has now earned trust and co-operation from the parents and the locals. Currently, it has modern buildings with spacious playgrounds and around 800 students in this school. The institution has been able to produce eight SLC/SEE batches till date with outstanding results.
What are the distinct features of Sunshine Secondary Boarding School?
This school is well-established, fast growing and center of academic excellence. It focuses on quality education. The school conducts training workshops for the teachers twice a year. The teachers are qualified, experienced, dedicated and experts in their related field. We have also given focus to the excellent performance of the students. So, the school conducts training workshops for the students for four times in a year. The school has achieved outstanding result since its inception till date. Another important feature of the school is that the school admits only the limited number of students not exceeding 40 in a classroom. We form sections only up to class 5, and from classes 6 to 10, we make only one section. The school has stood first position in the district several times due to its outstanding performance. Our products have performed their outstanding performance in their higher studies and job landing sector.
Could you share with us the present activities of PABSON as a former president?
PABSON is the umbrella organization of private boarding schools. Almost all the schools of Mahottari are under this umbrella organization. We have launched common calendar for the entire member schools with the view to bring uniformity in academic activities. We have also made the code of conduct for not admitting any students without their transfer certificate and fee clearance letter from the previous school which has shown our strict admission procedure even being a private institution.
It is said that the education policy of government still seems unclear. There is liquidity in education system even after the re-structuring of the country into federalism. What is your view regarding this issue?
When Nepal adopted the federal structure and the constitution hands over responsibilities of school education to the local government, it is appreciable theoretically but the decision howls chaos. Because of this provision, most private schools are facing a number of problems and challenges. The government has not still decided as how to search a gateway to solution.
Government negligence is conspicuously drooling over its administration. We have recently witnessed several blunders of the Examination Board while publishing SEE results. Irregularities, corruption and immaturity are often experienced in education sector. Similarly, the government has adopted the suppressive and discriminatory policy for the private educational institutions by forgetting their contributions to the preparation of quality human resources, particularly in technical field and in the field of providing job opportunities to unemployed people.
In my view, the government should evaluate the contributions of private education sector in the field of education and employment. The devotion and investment of the private investor is really appreciable in the context of Nepal for uplifting education status. So, the government should provide appropriate safe landing for the private education institutions and ensure their huge investment. For this, discriminatory and suppressive policies should be immediately amended.
In your opinion, what sort of education should be promoted in province 2 for bringing transformation in educational activities?
The province 2 has fertile soil for agricultural development. So, education related to agriculture should be given priority in order to uplift livelihood of the people of province 2. Agro-based industries should be established and run to produce skilled human resources required for this field. So, in my view technical human resources are required for agriculture and agro-based industries should be produced by establishing technical and vocational educational institutions. The chief minister should consider the historical background of this province and should make plans and policies for their successful implementation. I also suggest the chief minister for bringing private-friendly education policy and encourage private educational institutions to contribute to the education sector.
